Comfort and Feel

As the name suggests, Eco Terra is 100% natural latex that is actually ‘green’. There are a handful of natural latex mattresses on the market at this point, but Eco Terra is one of the best. The mattress is available in two firmness options to suit your sleeping preference: medium and medium-firm. Both live up to their labels. Neither is too soft nor too hard, but one is a little firmer for sleepers who need it. Regardless of which firmness you choose, there’s no denying that Eco Terra mattresses are a comfortable combination of the pressure relief and contouring of latex foam with the springiness of small coils. The top layers are made of latex and will flex to follow the curve of your body. Beneath that layer resides the comforting pushback of small fabric-encased coils. Together, the layers of this mattress provide the comfort and support that will have you sleeping like a baby.

Comfort And Feel Rating: 4.65/5

Motion Isolation

The Eco Terra mattress uses premium supportive fabric-encased coils that provide little motion transfer and an incredibly buoyant sleep. While latex foam is known for its bounce and responsiveness, the bounce is offset when when paired with Eco Terra’s fabric encased coils. This combination leads to minimal motion transfer. If you are a sleeper who prefers an “in the mattress” feel, memory foam may be a better choice. But if you prefer a slight hug from your bed with limited motion transfer, then this just might be the bed you are looking for.

Motion Isolation Rating: 4.7/5

Edge Support

Ever found yourself sliding off a mattress in the middle of the night? That’s because that mattress has poor edge support. Fortunately, you won’t have to worry about that with an Eco Terra mattress. Lower-gauge coils on the perimeter of the support core provide above-average edge support. The coils do an impressive job of providing support from the centre of the mattress all the way to the edges. In general, hybrid mattresses tend to offer better edge support than innerspring beds due to their pairing of springs and foam.

Edge Support Rating: 4.7/5

Off Gassing

Almost all new mattresses give off a faint smell when opened, but those smells are nothing to be concerned about. This off-gassing is common in almost all new products (new car smell, etc.). Most natural latex mattresses don’t emit a pungent off-gas like synthetic mattresses. In fact, Eco Terra has a scent instead of a smell. It produces a faint vanilla scent that’s actually quite pleasant. Like any other form off-gassing, the scent will be gone within a few days.

Temperature

Since latex foam does not retain heat like memory foam, the mattress will maintain a neutral temperature whether it is hot or cold. In general, latex breathes well. This can be largely attributed to latex’s open cell structure that circulates air easily. Ontop of that, the organic cotton cover also helps to regulate the flow of air in and out of the mattress and the encased coils push out excess body heat. Eco Terra went out of their way to design a mattress that will not trap heat. You’ll never feel overheated in an Eco Terra bed, but you also won’t feel like you are too cold either. It does a great job of regulating a comfortable sleeping temperature.

Materials

One of the reasons why I reviewed Eco Terra is because it utilizes organic, natural, and  CertiPUR-US Certified foams. This mattress has both organic cotton and natural latex. If you are not familiar, CertiPUR-US is a certification program administered by a not-for-profit organization.

CertiPUR-US certified foams are:

✓ Made without ozone depleters.

✓ Made without PBDEs, TDCPP, or TCEP (”Tris”) flame retardants.

✓ Made without mercury, lead, and other heavy metals.

✓ Made without formaldehyde.

✓ Made without phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

✓ Made with Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality.

The materials a company uses says a lot about their mattress. Latex is a material derived from the sap of a rubber tree and possesses elasticity. So technically it is this elasticity that allows the mattress to conform to the shape of the body. Most latex mattresses are soft, yet firm. Contradictory, right? I thought so at first until I realized that latex mattresses are soft at first touch, but firm up as your body sinks deeper to provide full support.

Below Eco Terra’s latex comfort layer is a support layer of pocketed coils. These coils provide edge-to-edge support, ensuring comfort  no matter where you sleep. Each coil is encased in a fabric that helps dampen motion transfer. This is great if your sleep partner turns throughout the night. It also enhances contouring. Each coil reacts independently to the amount of pressure placed on it. This allows the mattress to contour to your body, providing support and pressure relief where you need it. By allowing air to flow freely in and out of the mattress, the pocketed coils also keep away excess heat and moisture.

The mattress is covered in 100% organic cotton, which is soft, smooth, comforting, and hypo-allergic.  Eco Terra used nothing but high quality materials to construct this eco-friendly mattress that provides optimum comfort and support. Simply put, this is one of the best-made mattresses around.
